Beautiful. :o) Yes, those are indeed painted ladies. We have hatched them and watched them metamorphose many many times in my classes. They are quite hardy and lovely.
Gorgeous! Is that a lilac that it's landed on?
They are on a purple butterfly bush! I have this gigantic butterfly bush in my backyard that is about 8' tall x 8' wide. To say it is enormous is an understatement.
