1. Clearing. I managed to get all of my flower beds cleared, including the garden, during the delightful 77 degree weather we had yesterday. My tree lawn is littered with twined piles of butterfly bush limbs, the wild clematis bail that I cut back to about a 4" stub and the oak sapling that had to go due to being too close to the fence and more concerning-- the top had a major lean because of winds. As it grew, it leaned more and more. The butterfly bushes number 3 and the tallest gets to about 11' tall. The smallest gets only about 5' tall, but dies back completely. It is so much easier to clear the deadness from the beds when things aren't coming up yet.
2. Moving. The cup flower needed moved since it and the asters were not playing nicely. It was early enough since it hadn't started up yet. Last year I tried to split the asters and it was too late. The split and move were not successful.
3. Fevering. 2 hours into spring break and K was running a low-grade fever. She's had a touch of a cold and the fever only lasted about 8 hours. She stayed in all day Saturday while I was the Gardening Goddess. She watched unlimited movies on the tiny TV (portable DVD player) and had a jammie day. It was what she needed. At one point she told me that she was 54% better. Okay then.
4. Sneezing. Pollen. My car is covered. Allegra can only do so much. We won't turn the air on yet and the pollen is too bad to open the windows. The house is 77, but we're using ceiling fans. We'll all survive.
5. Soccer. Today was the first day back to soccer for the season. I tell you, I love i9 and the fact that it is only on Sunday. K is just not that kid who can do 3 practices during the week with a game on the weekend. I know that there are family members who suggest otherwise, but school comes first and that is how it has to be with a kiddo who requires a bit more studying time than perhaps others.
6. Coca Cola. I'd say I miss it, but I don't. I'm kind of shocked. I went cold turkey about a week and a half ago. Now, I only drank a can a day. I drank it at the beginning of the day. I thought it helped focus the ADD, but I think it just made my head feel fuzzy. I've accomplished a lot more and have been a lot more clear without it. I'll have green tea or water with lemon. I think it was more of a want for flavor.
K is feeling better. We have Easter cupcakes and cookies that we've baked. We're looking to a nice week off. :)

Observations on Pinterest.
I have a love for Pinterest. I'm still rather green, so it's' new and still very shiny. I have noticed some things though. Here's my list:
1. I can't tell you how many things are termed as "life changing." Life changing would be something that would do my laundry, check my kid's homework, cook the dinner, clean the house and so far, I haven't found anything that does that yet. Each one of us have a different view of "life changing."
2. There are a lot of tattooed people who like to photograph themselves and post their photos. There are a lot of tattooed feet in the world. I thought that was the worst place to tattoo because it wears off quick. No bother. I won't get one anyhow.
3. There are a lot of pregnant women who like to share their pregnancy photos.
4. There are tons of wedding dresses.
5. And finger nails.
6. And food with the words describing them including "sex" and "crack."
7. Speaking of "crack," I see a lot of butts. People apparently think having a work out photo of someone else's butt gives them motivation. For me, I like the fully clothed folk. I mean, there have been times I've run across photos and thought, "Really, is that gym legal attire?" Some of it borders appropriateness to post. And just for the record, I'm not looking for these photos. They are listed in the "popular" category. Hmm. Shall I wonder why?
8. People sometimes write recipes and directions in a way that makes sense to them, but not necessarily to the mass public. I ended up with multiple pounds of quinoa as a result once.
9. Pinterest folks seem to be a generally nice, happy-to-share kind of folk. Sometimes, people can still run the judgmental express. There was a lady with her son and some pink zebra shoes that he really wanted and wore to preschool. The things that were said. My oh my. I think that we forgot the manners that were taught back in Kindergarten. (That's where we learned all of the basics of life, right?) We remember the rule of, if you don't have anything nice to say then . . .
10. Some people don't exactly know how to link things. People will give you a link to a website, but you have to slog through tons to get to the one thing that you clicked the photo of. Generally, I don't waste the time and ditch on it.
11. Sometimes, I think that people didn't actually succeed as well as they claim with the recipes. I mean, some of those photos look like nothing I baked. (Or Janeen, either!)
However:
1. I have found delightful recipes. Just tonight, I found a recipe for a chocolate chip pretzel cookie. (The name is something like that.) Delightful!
2. I found out that the name of the doll that I loved most as a child is Dancerella! I still have her and she is posted on my 80's board.
3. I've found all sorts of divine hairstyles to try on my child. I don't know how her hair will behave (flat, thick and will do nothing but hang straight), but I'm willing to try.
4. I have great gardening tips. I've been looking for a way to trellis my beans and I've found several examples.
5. I have great tips on all sorts of miscellaneous everything. Cleaning supplies to Chobani substitutes for fatty things.
6. I've found great tips and links to help me teach K math, science and all sorts of things now and through the summer.
7. K is now excited about Pinterest. "PIN IT, MOM!" She's turning into an addict!
8. There are some really smart people out there! They are modern day McGyvers that can make a gift out of a square of newsprint, some twist ties and a couple of buttons. It's the kind of stuff that people are willing to buy and they say, "Do you know how cheap this is?"
9. I am happily learning lessons from people on a variety of ways to save and to reuse. That's all good!
10. It has inspired me to cook more.
11. Even my mother-in-law e-mailed and asked a question. "Check out my page!" She did and whatever didn't work for her worked fine on my page. :)

I can't read or think of the word yawn without actually yawning and other weirdnesses of my day.
1. It's true. K always laughs when I read a book with the word yawn. :big yawn!: I just can't do it. Saying it, seeing it, reading it-- it all ends up in a yawn.
Now I have teary eyes.
2. I had a coworker blow her nose at me today. Now, didn't she read my blog post from just the other day? (Most of my coworkers don't know about the blog, and I prefer to keep it that way.) She has a cold, but insists that she doesn't. She went to the public bathroom, brought out some tissue and stood in front of me and blew her nose so hard that she could have knocked me into the next room. No lie, there was bigger force than the wind hitting my house right now. I have a few options that she could have chosen:
a. Blow your nose IN the bathroom.
b. Turn away from the person who is standing in front of you. (My comment was, "Gee, if I knew that was going to happen, I would have ducked." Call me damaged goods from just the other day.)
c. She could have used the Purell at the counter or have gone back into the bathroom and washed her hands. Nope. None of that.
3. I dusted the store a second time to avoid hanging out with the plague. She was busy lying all over the front sales counter, no doubt discouraging sales as she sniffled, coughed and sneezed all over it never using the additional tissues or Purell dispenser. :ewwww!:
It is here that I remind y'all of my germaphobia.
4. I glued jewelry stands together today, taped them for stability and when dry, I filed the rough edges down with nail files. Yes, I get paid to "file" papers-- literally. HA! It's a happy part of being display staff. People look at me weird as I run an emery board against paper and board. It makes me smile inside.
5. I found things for K's Easter basket (helping the bunny out a little!) at the local discount store and in combination with books that I earned from working the Scholastic Warehouse Sale breakdown and the Windmill Generator Kit that Hubs found for half price at the Natural History Museum, K is done! All I have to do is to put it in a basket. Last year, K got her bike. Her old bike was far too small and we told her that the bunny doesn't normally gift such lavish things, but he was concerned for the health of her knees. He said that there was a whole lotta leg and a whole lotta notta bike. She understood.
6. I'll be making the Oat Lemon Bars (they are on my Pinterest page). I can't exactly recall the name, but I'll be making a double batch tomorrow night for Thursday. We're providing the teachers with dinner since it is interim pick up. I won't be attending because it will be my father's somewhat sort of ish birthday. He's a Leap Baby and he's without an actual read day this year. I'm on roll duty. I can't decide whether to pull the bread machine out and make the dough and transfer it or to go the frozen dough ball route. I'm feeling frozen at this point.
7. A day and a half after planting our seeds in our window greenhouse, we had seedlings! We're so happy! There were more today.
8. It was garbage pick-up this morning, so this wind tonight doesn't mean that my can has tipped over on the tree lawn only to fill three yards down with my recyclables! I had to got clean three yards worth of boxes and water bottles from the neighbors last week. Thankful that the weather held off for a day!
9. I'm hungry and my Lent sacrifice was no eating after 7. :( There's a grumbly in my tumbly. I've been drinking a lot of water. A lot.
10. I forgot! The nose-blower also has felt the need to lecture me on several different occasions in the past two days. Her last lecture was about removing a label from her Campbell's soup can. I told her that I did not remove her label. She turned her can around and showed it to me. "I didn't take your label. I only take the labels from the cans in the recycling." "Well, my mother saves them for my nephew's school, so I'd appreciate if you NOT take my labels." "I didn't." Oh my goodness, girlfriend needs to get a life. This morning and the day before was a lecture about my speaking with the receiving manager and receiver about merchandise that he accepts that I deem unsellable. She went on to tell me that basically I need to walk on egg shells and not to announce, "Because of such and such, I can't sell this." "I'm not really for walking on egg shells." "Well . . . " She went on. My response was, "While I appreciate the lecture . . . " It just wouldn't stop. What's funny is that she has no authority over me, yet for some reason this week has decided to pick on me. Rrrr.
I am tired. Though Hubs is downstairs working out and dropping weights all over the place, K is sleeping soundly and I believe that I may follow her lead.
'Night!

Wintertime vocabulary lesson for the masses.
I realize that not all of the readers here live in the cold, white north. We have a different vocabulary up here during the winter. Here are some words/phrases you may here:
1. I've got to snap my blades. That means that if you are really good at it, you can drive down the road, reach out your window and grab hold of a moving windshield wiper blade while in motion. You need to do this to "snap" the ice off the blade to make it so that it can start clearing ice, road sludge, salty water and whatnot from your windshield.
2. Drifts. We're not talking about hints that people are dropping. Oh no. We're talking about swirling measurements of snow that collect and block the worse possible places.
3. Beet juice. Where I live, they use a beet juice cocktail on winter roads for ice treatment. No, we don't drink it. Surprisingly, it doesn't turn the cars pink or purple like I thought. Well, I suppose it is hard to tell under all of the gray road gunk.
4. Parking lot sludge. Gray and black semi-frozen matter that is a result of salt melting and driving over ice and snow. It will ruin pants. When you walk through it, you end up with a stripe of gunk all the way up the back of your legs. Nice.
5. Give my car a brush, please. No, I don't drive the dog mobile from Dumb and Dumber. Brushing a car is simply taking the lovely snow brush and brushing the snow off the windows and lights. My husband usually brushes my car off, but this morning, I was on my own. :(
6. Snowman snow. Snow isn't just snow. There are different degrees of snow and just because you have it doesn't mean that you can make a snowball or snow person out of it. The warmer it is, the more the snow sticks. The colder it is, the fluffier it is.
7. Car blanket. You don't have this to tuck your car in. You have this in case you end up in a horrible traffic jam because someone decided to stomp on their brakes or because your car failed to cooperate. A nice, toasty blanket in your car may never be used. In the winter up north, it is a necessity, though.
I know that I'm forgetting a ton of things here. Feel free to keep adding to the list. :)

Math, Guatemala, the boat anchor and one hot mess.
Math: I am happy to report that K got a C+ on her latest math test! Of course, that was only after I ended up at K's school before classes started and accidentally cried because K got a zero on a math quiz and was so upset about it and that we took her out of the after school program that she vomited. She's going to the math tutor everyday now. We're looking at a D for math on her report card, but she has worked so hard for it. Everything else is all A's and one B. The sad thing is that she will not get merit roll because of the D and that will make her sad. Next time.
Guatemala: There was guy who came into work last week and after putting all pieces of the story together, I've found that he asked several of us to travel with him to Guatemala over the Christmas holiday. We were giggling about it yesterday.
The boat anchor: That would be what our neighbor is falling the computer. He said that he's seen nothing like it. They still have it Geek ICU, but we don't have much hope.
One hot mess: That would be the hurricane-force winds that we're dealing with. We've hit 75 MPH winds and all schools are closed. They talked about closing where I work. "But it's just some wind," I said. Yup. Wind and rain that closes tons of stuff. K is happy. She gets to go hang with her cousins today.
That's my lame update. Typing big paragraphs with the Kindle is difficult, especially with auto-correct. You never know what auto-correct will give. :s
Hang onto your hat today!

A list! Things you didn't want to know about the last few days.
1. I'm new at blogging from the Kindle and their auto-correct is hilarious. Yes, I know that there is an empty 10, but I couldn't figure out how to get the Kindle to scroll down the rest of the way. I can tell you what it was, though. Our crocus' seem to be confused. The warm weather has made them peek their heads above the soil.
2. I always have the habit of checking the public bathroom when I open the store. After the weekend, I can sometimes find some lovelies in there. At Christmas, I found that someone flushed an air freshened. It was those little gel balls and someone emptied it into the toilet. I have no idea what possessed them to do that. Monday, I came in to find a "gift" on the floor. Wow,that started my day off grrrreat!
3. I'm eating a cold lunch because my coworker has to heat each thing individually and it literally takes 10 minutes for her to do it. Think I'm kidding, just ask Nicole!
4. I have a coworker who needs to seriously retire.
5. My bio dad felt the need to hug me today in front of a roomful of strangers and to loudly announce that he loves me. I told him that I loved him just to make the awkwardness stop.
6. It was warm enough outside yesterday to lie on the sidewalk and enjoy the warmth.
7. The windows were open at the house all day yesterday.
8. Since this post is several days in the making, so my aunt's update comes here. The breast lumpectomy was done today. It was successful, they believe that they got everything and the lymph nodes that were removed appear to test fine at this moment.
9. The smell of my grandfather's cherry tobacco pipe enveloped me at one point. I felt Poppy's presence and boy did I need that. That was yesterday and I was a bit fatigued from all of the stuff with my aunt.
10.

More fodder for the blog.
A speedy post.
1. Aunt Donna is going in for her lung biopsy this AM. I'll let you know what I know, but currently I have nothing. I can tell you that her roommate had given the nurses a run for their money and at 93, she tried to break the wrist of one, a finger of the other and that sent Aunt Donna into the hall yelling for help. The cavalry came running and they were able to free their co-workers, to which they all decided that Aunt Donna needed a private room. Too much drama.
2. We are attending a lovely church with services and classes for the little ones. Why is it that one lady insists on bringing her grandson with her on the Sunday a month she has him? Apparently, his parents came along this week with two others in tow. We had an adult class with three children 4 and under, being liquored up with coffee (regular) by their grandmother. They were ripping the tree apart (they seasonally decorate a tree in there), so the one lady just directed the ripping into switching the theme. They were flying around with large candy canes in hand and smacking things. It is hard to pay attention when kids are running like crazy in a class that they don't belong in.
3. Remember the dinosaur guy from Mrs. Doubtfire? I think that he is alive and well at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. :snore: K- liked him and got a lot out of it. I had to walk away before I fell asleep standing up.
4. Why do people have to ask questions involving swear words to interpreters that are conducting a program FOR CHILDREN? I mean, is it necessary to ask what will happen if the animal gets pi$s#d off? Really?
5. My husband thinks that I need to become a recluse out in some remote place in Montana. There are days I just don't like the public a ton. I told him that my lack of grace prevents me from being too far from a doctor.
Must go get ready for work. That's all the time I have.

Weird things that make me scratch my head.
1. Hubs is at a conference in Columbus today. He had to go about a half hour north to then turn around to go south. I feel very Willy Wonka everytime he has to do this. You have to go forward to go back, right?
2. Inventory is done-- for me. Regardless to how many signs we have up on the doors and sandwich boards in the parking lots, posted on the internet in a few places and have had it posted on our counters for weeks, we still have crappy acting people all ticked because we are closed. "But I came allllll the way from - - - (which isn't that far down the road) . . . " I hate it when people do that. They aren't even nice about it, either.
3. Why the math program that K-'s school district has adopted is so completely dumb. Instead of teaching kids to add 84 + 11 in a traditional way, they decide to give them a Hundred Chart. Don't you think that it would be more advantageous to just teach them properly from the beginning? I have K- adding things up in a traditional way, but so that she knows how to use the Hundred Chart, I have her double check her work. Let's face it, they won't have the stupid chart with them for the rest of forever and it is dumb to teach them how to use a crutch from the very beginning. We're working with basic math facts here which, halfway through the second grade, the kids should know. It is the same concept of K-'s teacher last year not allowing them to count on their fingers. You only have so many fingers! This math program is for the birds. Rrrr.
4. I wore no make-up during inventory this week, yet it seems like my face is breaking out more. Hmmm.
5. Because I believe that subconsciously, I was concerned that we wouldn't wake up in time to send Hubs off for his conference, I didn't really sleep. The last I looked at the clock was at about 3 AM, then we were up at 5:15 AM to get him moving. Caffeine, take me away!
6. My mom called me yesterday to see if I could take my brother to court today. "What for?" "His divorce." I went on to tell my mother that my brother hasn't contacted me in a sweet forever and the only time that I hear from him is when he needs something. "That's why he wasn't going to call you. He owns it. He said that exactly." She called him and he called me back, quite thankful for the ride (he is without license until March,) and I got on him about it. I am taking and dropping him off. I don't believe that I need to be there to witness the profanity that will be my soon-to-be ex sister-in-law. I pray (quite literally) that Billy will hold it together, be respectful and behave as such. The divorce is a long-coming thing that is truly something that needs to happen for both of them. Finalization will be a doozy, though. Look at it this way, it isn't like they have material property to divvy up. They have the two kids, who seem to be settled in the homes that they are in. As for the rest of it, well, drugs are a very bad thing. Amazing how you can lose everything with addiction. My brother is clean and has sworn that he will never drink and drive again, but I'm not so convinced about my SIL's status. I pray good things for her life.
7. I was able to pass the two Britax Regent car seat boosters on to my cousin. She also needed to borrow my butterfly cake pans and those caused her to leave a message on my machine, "No need for pepper spray. If anyone comes after me, I'll just beat them with a cake pan!" They are Nordicware (butterfly pan was on clearance at Target for 5.00 and the muffin pan was a gift), and heavy as all get out. I called later to see if she had to use the "cake pan defense system." ;) Seriously though, I'm thrilled that we had a good home to pass the car seat boosters down to. Turns out that they didn't have next car seat to move I- into, so the hand-me-down seats were something that they truly needed. They were big and K-, at the ripe age of 8, had officially aged out of them (according to Ohio law), and they were taking up enormous amounts of space in the basement. I did warn Jenny that I didn't clean them, but we aren't about letting K- have a buffet in the back seat anyhow. Other than a few crumbs and some miscellaneous bits in the side stretchy junk pockets, the car seats are truly fine to put directly into use. Hooray! I even found where I put the anchors and tethers for the one car seat (they didn't work in Hubs' Tercel), and found that I had tied the directions to the bag, too. Double hooray!
Shuffling onward to what the day holds. Have a wonderful day!

A listy weekend
1. You don't care to know this, but my face has broken out and it hurts. Too much soda, I think.
2. K- passed her swimming examination, so now she is going to start with the big boys in the lanes next year. She had some difficulty treading, so I was worried that she might be retained in level 2 again. She didn't know what they meant by "tread" and she thought she was supposed to touch the bottom of the pool. The pool where she was at was 4 1/2 feet (she's 4 feet), but then when she went to do it, she was scared. She finally did in the 4 1/2 foot end, then they went to the 14 foot portion to have the kids jump off the diving board, into the arms of a guard, then tread 5 feet to the edge. I don't do deep water. If I can't stand, I'm not happy. I was on the edge of having an anxiety attack just watching, but I was far enough away for K- not to know. Know that she did just fine. 14 feet deep? No problem! Good for her!
3. K- got a perfect attendance award for the third quarter. That will be her only one for this year, but she was pleased just to get one. The principal was telling us that the third quarter is the quarter with the least perfect attendance, so I told her that it was just a little extra special.
4. On Saturday, we were all involved in the first mowing of the year. Hubs mowed, while K- and I cleaned dead grass from bare areas and planted some grass seed. Between the neighbor (who we love to death) and his dog who thinks that she lives and needs to pee at only our house combined with a continual snow cover from November - February, we had dog pee and snow mold grass death to deal with. I was glad that we were able to take care of the lawn yesterday, because as I type, it is raining.
5. The garden is coming along well. I think that once we get into a warm set of days, things will really hum along. Potato sprouts are popping by the day. Greens and onions are happy. I was able to give the garden a good weed fluff. It's hard to believe that by the end of this month, I'll have the seedlings that I've been nursing since the third week of March set into the ground, the butterfly gardens will have some plants moved around and will be accommodating strawberries (thanks to my MIL) and ground cherries (very near the garden), as well as a bumper crop of Holly Hocks and Chinese Lanterns.
6. We had a fellowship lunch after church today. Seeing that I would probably be returning with 3/4 of what I brought, I made a small casserole of apple crisp and brought 3 cans of creamed corn (with a little butter) in the crock pot. We love creamed corn and I figured whatever was left would be transformed into a sweet corn cake for dinner. That's exactly what happened and it was delicious.
7. The rain held off for soccer today. K- was able to play and had a great time. I could tell that she was tired in the end, but she hung in there.
8. We stopped by the vegetable market on the way home and picked up some fresh green beans and potatoes (among other things) to have tonight with dinner. The greatest thing happened. K- ate all of her green beans and announced that whatever I put on top made all the difference. Garlic salt. Who knew? Now the child, who refused green beans from birth (from first foods anyhow) now likes them if they are fresh and with a sprinkle of garlic salt. Works for me.
9. I took the truck for a chassis bath on Saturday. I'm hoping that is the last salt that I have to rinse from it for a while. I wanted to wax it, but the weather was kind of ominous. While K-, E- and some neighborhood boys played ball next door, I swept and wiped down the inside of the truck. I am now not embarrassed to take the truck to:
10. The appointment at NTB for a tire rotation/balance and alignment. When you have an alignment done at NTB, it is guaranteed for 6 months. Given the nasty winter and the size of pot holes we've been dodging around here, the RAV definitely needs a bit of a tweak. If the alignment is off, it doesn't pull-- it eats tires. Since I don't care to purchase a new set of tires, we'll get her tweaked and twirled. Though I couldn't get it in today, I'll be taking it later on this week when there are no appointments (but mine.) I should get out in a jiffy. I also love that they don't need me to have my receipts, because currently, I don't know where they are at. (Probably the fire box.) He told me that as long as I don't forget my phone number between now and my appointment, I'm good. Good for them! Good for me!
11. As of Monday, I'll be going cold turkey on soda. I know, I know. I shouldn't drink it. It is crap and I know it. I think that it is that I like the bubbles. And the flavor. And the caffeine. I'm going to do the green tea thing. I'll do no sugar and that will be an adjustment. Seriously, I can't spend the calories on crap. Even diet is having me consume junk I shouldn't.
12. I really need to put more effort into exercising. I do some, but I need to do more. Frankly, this is nothing new.
13. The caterpillar that we gave my sister's partner for his birthday last week is in a chrysalis and the family is so excited to check on their butterfly-in-making each day.
14. K- and E- painted their nails yesterday "all by themselves." They didn't do a bad job and rest assured, every single color that I took over was used. Whooo-boy! :)
Now that I've given you a big list, I must go tend to the laundry. I'm sorry to say that I can't add:
15. Laundry fairy arrived and I love her.
If she does arrive someday, rest assured that you guys will be one of the first to know.
Have a great day!

Things accomplished.
1. Walking K- to school and home after volunteering, then back to school and home again. That, my friends, is 4 miles.
2. In between all that, I managed to get the house 2/3 clean, laundry handled 2/3, beds stripped and remade, bathroom 100% clean and I'm on my way to putting the adult laundry away.
3. K- and I visited the dental unit to get the ALL CLEAR! Yes, when they announced that K- was yet again cavity free, I did the good Baptist thing, raised my hands and giggled while dancing and saying, "Praise Jesus!" When it comes to K- and her teeth, believe me, they feel the same way.
4. Speaking of, K- is just now getting her 6 year molars. One is coming in and 3 are sitting in wait. Once those are in and because of K-'s history of crubby teeth (thank you birth status), she will be getting the biting surfaces of her teeth sealed. The hygienist in charge of ordering supplies assured me that it is all BPA free, so that is a great thing. For K-, any extra help we can get is fantastic. And as for a looseness report? Nuthin. Dr. Rick laughed and said that absolutely nothing is loose in any way. I told him that was God's reward to us for taking such good care of her teeth with him. Renee, the hygienist, did tell me that the longer the teeth stay in, the better the permanent teeth will be.
5. I got a fantastic report, too! Dr. Rick told me that my teeth were beautiful and other than a spot of trouble early on, my teeth have been good to go. (I had a 10 year dental hiatus that gave me many fillings to tackle for several years as a result. We're past that now.)
6. I did the 30 Day Shred and did a much better job today than I did Tuesday. I was up and had been running around so much beforehand, that I think I was a lot better stretched out and warmed up than before. Rachael told me that and a friend confirmed it. I felt so much better afterwards. I had enough time to go, freshen up, throw on a coat and walk to get K-. I didn't sit and turn into a pile and I think that helped, too.
7. I found out that my sore throat could have been from my improperly breathing while exercising. Who knew?
8. The RAV is scheduled for the recall repair tomorrow. Will the lovely dealership be kind enough to run it through the wash before they give it back? It would be delightful if they did.
Smiles in my day:

Have a great weekend!

Things that made me smile today.
1. My people and their plans to spoil me this weekend.
2. Advil.
3. Diet Coke.
4. Ginger snaps.
5. Homemade cheesecake. Chocolate chip cheesecake. Yes, I made it. I'm not afraid to admit that it is delicious.
6. Planning K-'s valentine party for tomorrow.
7. Knowing that her teacher knows me well enough to not worry about the details.
8. PBS.
9. Seeing the Statue of Liberty on "Becoming American" on PBS and knowing that my child's obsession with it says that we will revisit Lady Liberty again someday. We will spend as much time there as she wants and we will be able to get off the boat this time at Ellis Island to research great grandparents. Theater tickets prevented us on our whirlwind weekend in November.
10. K- coming to the conclusion that she will just "anor" the boastful child in her class and not say mean and hateful things like are often said to her and her classmates.
11. Dropping off balloons and a tacky solar powered dancing flower to Aunt Donna for Valentine's Day. We kept our distance, as she is still working on overcoming her cold. I complimented her for climbing into clothes this time and not greeting me in her jammies. I told her that was a step up!
12. K- saw bags that had slipped from a store display and she worked to move them out of the way for people. If she sees product that falls on the floor, she'll re-shelf it. She helped a lady at a big box store pick up all sorts of product that had fallen into a giant heap in the middle of the floor and needed tidied.
13. Hubs' attempt at trying to build a better mousetrap, well so to speak. Hubs is tired of the squirrels ripping up our Droll Yankee bird feeder and he tried to create a guard cap from a bottle he had. It didn't work. Tomorrow, I will be on the quest to purchase plastic popcorn bowls as feeder guards.
Have a great day!

You know it's been winter too long when . . .
1. You need to refer to the original purchasing documents to refresh your memory as to what color your car really is. "Road salt gray" is not the original color. In the back of your mind, you kind of remembered that.
2. People understand that you need to sweep the inside of your vehicle and get the excuse of "winter car."
3. You have a developed pattern of how you scrape your car off.
4. You have an alternate plan when ice is involved.
5. You don't have enough time between snowstorms to properly launder your coat.
6. That's okay, because you are rather used to the cold. A little fleece coat in 14 F seems fine for wearing while shoveling snow from the apron of the driveway.
7. The console is beginning to run low on storm food.
8. Your spouse has become desperate and has now had to bum windshield wiper fluid from your 2 gallon emergency stash in your car. The worst part? You are now down to a half gallon in reserve and that concerns you.
9. Your daughter has worn snow boots every week to church with her cute little dresses. No need to change. No one even notices.
10. Tennis shoes seem like appropriate enough winter footwear. You've developed a plan of action for avoiding big puddles and large slicks of ice.
11. The neighbor rescues your parcel off the porch for fear that something inside may freeze and that wouldn't be good.
12. Gloves seem optional.
13. Your hands are so dry that they would make lovely sandpaper, if only you were a carpenter.
14. School is already called off for the next day at 6:30 PM the day prior.
15. That additional day off officially puts you over your allotted number of snow (calamity) days and now you are going to have to make that time up.
16. You have alternate ways of going everywhere.
17. You were considering draping a shower curtain over your windshield to avoid ice build-up.
18. Your mud flaps clog with ice, but thankfully the friction of the tires carves a nice curve in the ice flaps that are now permanently affixed to the winter sled you drive.
19. You don't want to know what the gas bill is.
20. You hit the grocery days before the storm is supposed to hit, because you know if you wait, you'll be eating pork rinds and drinking V8 while wiping with low-end toilet paper. (Uh, no pun intended on the low-end, but now that I re-read, it gives me a good chuckle!)
21. You forget what your lawn looks like green. It's been under near constant full coverage of snow since the third week in November. (Except for 2 days of melting the last week of December. Still not all succeeded in melting before getting hit again.)
22. You wander if it is still green or if snow mold has taken hold.
23. You wonder if your zone 5 perennials will be perennialing for you anymore.
24. You hope that the branches can withstand all the ice.
25. The sleet outside is audible over a humming computer.
26. Managers called to say that they were closing the store down 3 hours early and you ask them why. You are already there and it seems perfectly fine, right?
27. You get paid for those three hours that you didn't work.
28. You take those three hours, go home and start making valentines. That is the February storm project that you do every. single. year. No need to break tradition now!
29. Your husband's boss calls to say that there is no need to risk life or limb to come to work the next day. If there is need to take a vacation or personal day because of weather, he fully supports it.
30. You can tell how bad the weather is by the height of the sleeves of the weather man on Channel 11. Buttoned and cuffed? You are fine. Unbuttoned and rolled up to his elbows? You are in for it.
31. When there is something bright outside you wonder what is going on. Is it a fire? A transformer blew? No! It's just the sun. You remember! Ahhhh, it hasn't been around in a long time.
I'm sure that I've missed some. Feel free to add to my list in the comments.
A prayer request:
My dad has been suffering from some funk from the time Mom had her hysterectomy August 26. He's been on perhaps 4 antibiotics with no help. The doctor was going to prescribe a 5th antibiotic when Mom suggested a scan be done. The scan showed that my father has an aneurysm in the main artery that runs in the middle of his chest. It measures 3.6 and the measurement for main cause of concern starts at 4. I'm not so good with my dad hauling around with that in his chest, particularly since given the information just learned today, it is most likely that this is what caused my Uncle Bobby's death 3 years ago. He goes to visit the doctor in 2 weeks.
Grandpa is still in the hospital and on the vent. They had to tie him down because he was trying to pull the vent out. I'm sure that makes him overly joyous.
Smiles in my day:
- Getting 14 of the 22 perling bead heart sun catchers made with K- this evening. We'll bust out the other 8 tomorrow.
- Crock-pot dinner. No fuss and very little muss.
- April finally having the sound of relief in her voice. Her parent's house will be on the market as of Tuesday. This has been a bit of a long and tough road for her, but she is now to a point that hopefully she feels relief.
Have a very wonderful and safe day!

Plans. I have 'em.
I've been a little non-existent because Christmas! It's right around the corner!
The other night, Hubs helped me haul the items up from the gift shelf in the basement so that I could start wrapping them. I would have wrapped them downstairs, but it's a lot warmer up here.
I'm happy to report that I only had to do one gift switch from my original labeling.
I was able to scare up some things for additional kid gifts for the family Christmas Eve. Each child has three gifts to open. All of us cousins purchase gifts for the other kids. Sometimes the count ends up uneven because of financial issues and others pick up the slack.
This year I got the pleasure of providing 6 additional gifts.
The way we look at it is this; we only spend $5-6.00 on each child. If purchasing a few extra gifts evens out the count for all the kids, then it is all worth it. I did have some items stowed away. One child is receiving a 4 book preschool pack that I made up of books off the 75% off Target dollar rack. Another is getting Monopoly Deal that I got for $3.25 from a Walmart clearance. There is a jewelry kit that I purchased for a whole $1.97. I have a Mad Libs pad that I bought for $1.98 from Barnes and Noble clearance and an additional lip gloss that was left over from my gift bundling that I did with some bracelets for the older girls. I had my nephews that I was able to recycle gifts to that I purchased for my cousin's sons, but they never show up and we were tired of sending gifts along.
K- has been off for the last two days. She was off Monday for snow and Tuesday for wind chill. Hubs happen to have been home for both days, which was wonderful because my lovely in-law's just flew back from Chicago and we weren't sure that they were even going to be able to get back to Ohio for quite some time. They did hit a window from airport to airport, but flew in a blizzard on the way here. They arrived safely, but it was really better that they were able to rest.
Hubs has been continuing to work on the house. He replaced all the outlets in the kitchen, which also called for him to finally bite the bullet and map the house on the electrical box downstairs. In doing that, he is convinced that the people who did the circuit dedication must have been high, drunk, both or otherwise. He did get it all done and it is wonderful.
So the balance of my week is:
- Getting a book for my niece, boxing their gifts and getting them to my father-in-law to ship on Monday.
- Working all day on Thursday at school and sandwiching the IEP review in the middle of all that. Remember that K- is on an IEP for speech and she has really started to blossom with some pronunciation problems. The funny thing is that with her, it is truly an out-of-mouth issue, but it isn't causing spelling/reading issues. That is really a great thing.
- Making cookie dough on Thursday night so that when I drop K- off for school on Friday, I can bust a move back home to get my Christmas baking rolling. I kind of figure that what I can get done on Friday and maybe Saturday will be it, so I've got to get myself completely organized baking wise to get the job done. I will be baking chocolate chip, chocolate chocolate chip/chunk, peanut butter, ginger hugs, raspberry thumbprints, apple cinnamon oatmeal, sugar cookie red hots and brownies.
- We'll drop in to see Aunt Donna on Saturday. I must call to let her know.
- Sunday, I'll be baking, prepping and decorating for K-'s birthday on Monday. I'll be working part of Monday, so I want to have as much done as possible on Sunday evening so that it isn't an issue. Oh, I also need to drop by the church to pay for the room rental (a love gift, thank you my lovely church!) and pick up keys. K- wants pizza and that's certainly not hard. I have a Little Caesar's coupon for pizza and crazy bread, so that will be handy. I've been gifted enough Sprite to keep NE Ohio well hydrated. We'll make a Sam's Club run on Sunday to pick up some individual chippie bags (flu season, you know) and a veggie tray. I'll bake rainbow cupcakes with rainbow frosting and we'll have a cupcake bar where the children will be decorating their own. Because of all the Sprite, we'll be having Fizzy Lifting Drinks. (Sprite, rainbow sherbet and sprinkles.) Can you tell that we're rolling Willy Wonka? ;) We'll be watching the classic movie and taking a crack at a pinata.
Busy, busy. It's all in how I pace myself.
Smiles in my day:
- Hubs working so hard.
- Remembering and getting up at 5 AM to hide Buddy our Elf on the Shelf. Do you know how many nights a week I end up roaming the house in the middle of the night to give Buddy a new spot to sit in? Shhhh. K- doesn't know that!
- Yes, I remembered to hide Buddy before I fell asleep tonight!
- Giving K- her home spelling test this morning and she got them all right. It makes me feel better, because I was a bit lax in reviewing them with her. Having the first two days off school didn't help, either! I know, excuses, excuses.
- The Biggest Loser finale tonight.
Have a great day!

Stuff crossed off, stuff not.
I always have the mental list. I was able to check a few things off that list this weekend.
1. We visited Grandma and I put up her Christmas tree. Yes, it is early, but we don't think that Grandma will actually make it to Christmas. The little tree brings her so much joy. K- said that it made Grandma's face light up. It is true. It is just one of those 6' spiral outdoor trees that she has me put ornaments on and she just thinks that it is the cats meow. Hey, bless Grandma and her love for her tree.
2. I was able to order our Christmas cards. Now, this seems like no big thing to most people, but remember that I am an artist and tend to be a bit particular. This year, our photo of us is kind of far away to accommodate a rather large statue, but we had a close up of K-. It took me hours to find just the right size/layout through Snapfish. I paid a bit more than I usually do, but ended up going with the 5 x 7 card. It's all good. It's ordered and it is checked off the list.
3. We managed a stop to Sam's, picked up a bunch of things and now don't need to go there probably into the new year.
4. On our way to Sam's, I saw that NTB was running a tire sale. The tires on my vehicle have been quite a pain in my side since we've owned my vehicle, so I thought it was worth the look-see. Hubs checked at Sam's. They are having a sale soon, but don't have my tires in stock. I'd have to order them and pay for them in advance, have them gathered up and shipped to them and then go to have everything put on. They don't do alignment, so I would have had to go elsewhere for that. Turns out that tires, road hazard, disposal, tax, alignment and the balancing stuff all turned out to be $650.00. That, my friends, is one heck of a deal. Sadly, I have very large tires on my truck and people don't generally have them in stock. To add to that pain, they usually want you to have to do a bank job in order to afford them. We were looking at the possibility of spending over $1000. in tires alone. We were thrilled. Because the Browns were busy playing, everyone was at home. They had my truck up on the rack with tires removed by the time I signed the paper to allow them to actually do so.
5. While waiting for NTB to work their magic, we walked to the party supply store. Miss K- will be having a Willy Wonka themed party (classic thankyouverymuch) and I needed to track down some supplies for the event. We're going with a couple different purples and orange. K- picked out some multi colored polka dotted purple sacks for pinata grab bags (my MIL does the pinata every year). We'll be having a pajama party and projecting the movie on the big ole wall of our events building at church. She is so excited!
6. My sister and I have started to develop our shopping plan for Black Friday. We are those crazy people that are out at 4 AM. Usually, I go with my sister as support. This year, I'm a girl in need. I have myself set on a camera for K-. I have $60.00 in Target gift cards from My Points, so the camera I'm looking at would cost me about $20.00. I look at the gift cards as free cash, so my supplementation is the monetary chunk I'm actually counting. A 20ish dollar big Santa gift isn't such a bad thing.
7. All of K-'s uniforms are dried and ironed, awaiting their wear this week.
8. I got K-'s Scholastic book order submitted.
9. Laundry washed, hung to dry on the line and the laundry bucket is empty.
10. Two crock-pot meals in a row. They are two day meals, so we have a lovely dinner for tomorrow already. The great thing? It is safe food for Hubs, so he won't have any issues.
11. The 100 Book Challenge photos have been sent off to Miss S- and Mr. B-. I'm now in charge of updating the board AND! awarding the prizes. (I swear that they saw me coming!) I'm trying to devise a way to award prizes with minimal class disruption. I've taken photos of the prizes and hopefully those in charge will agree that the teachers need to just have the children choose off the sheets. That way, I can just put the prizes in their mailbox, instead of pulling kids out of rooms to choose. I have to do that with books, but that is a different thing altogether.
I was going to paint today, but we took the detour to tires. After that, we basically figured the day was shot, but Hubs has two weeks of vacation to take before the end of the year or he'll lose it. He said that he'll bust out the kitchen on his time off.
I have to work on the PTA Membership directory. That is the thing that is hanging over my head. Geeze o' Pete, it is taking forever. I switched programs over to be compliant with National PTA and it has been a pain in my behind. That is my thing to tackle when I get off here. If I can get that thing done.
I've been waffling on the annual Christmas letter. To do or not to do? I try to make it light, happy, a bit of a recap but with much Thanksgiving. It is just a one pager that is 12 point font on paper that generally has a pretty bit margin to it. My brother has ribbed me about it for years, but I do actually have people (Aunt Patti!) that seem to really enjoy it. I don't know. I'm on the fence. Frankly, nothing giant has happened so I'm thinking I can just skip.
So here is your opportunity. Belt it out internet. Love the Christmas letters or hate the Christmas letters? Don't worry. You aren't going to hurt my feelings.
